CUSCO & MACHU PICCHU
The imperial city of Cusco, the old capital of the Inka Empire is the main touristic destination of Peru. And Cusco has it all to deserve this title! In the capital and the surrounding areas the Inkas constructed buildings which today are famous all around the world: the enormous megalithic walls of Sacsayhuaman, the sacred land terraces in Ollantaytambo, and the wonder of the world: the Citadel of Machu Picchu.
Facing so much splendour here, the Spanish made every effort to build a colonial style city center, which is almost unparalleled in Peru.
