FROM CUSCO TO THE AMAZON JUNGLE

(PUERTO MALDONADO)

During this 8- hour trip we will cross all the ecological levels from the Andean snowy mountains to the pure Amazon Jungle. In one go we will descend from the Pirhuayani pass (4725 masl) to Puerto Maldonado located at 200 masl. We will arrive here at our final destination at around 5 pm.

We will leave the Imperial city of Cusco early in the morning and start our trip during which the environment will change drastically. We will leave the Andean world behind with its traditions and typical landscapes and witness the environment changing drastically. Completely new landscapes surround us here with different climates, flora and fauna.

First we will cross the whole Cusco Valley and head towards the snowy mountains of Ausangate, one of the highest peaks in Southern Peru. Along the way we can see from the height of 4000 meters the high Andean communities working with their llamas and alpacas and also the snowy peaks of Ausangate. We reach the highest point (4725 masl) of our trip in the morning. Later we will experience a sudden change in the climate as we descend from the cold areas of the high Andes to the tropical Amazon Jungle. Everything around us will turn lush, tropical green and as we arrive in the jungle the city of Puerto Maldonado awaits us with a beautiful sunset.
