THE INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS – IN A GROUP

El Camino Inca a Machu Picchu es una experiencia espectacular que hay que realizar al menos una vez en la vida! Tiene un recorrido de 42 km, iniciando en el km 82 para terminar en la misma Ciudadela Inca de Machu Picchu.

People from all over the world come and make the Inca Trail but because there is a daily limit of 500 people the places go really fast. For this reason it is important to make plans at least 3-4 months in advance, depending on the time of the year. ruina pumamarka

Day 1 CUSCO - WAYLLABAMBA – LlULLUCHAPAMPA

We pick up the hikers from the different hotels in Cusco at 6.30am and transfer them to a private bus. We will cross the regions of Chinchero, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and head towards km82 (Piscakucho). Here we will start the Inca Trail. We will make our first stop at Miskay to rest and then walk towards our first camp in Wayllabamba where we have lunch. In the afternoon after leaving behind the first mountain pass we make our overnight camp at Llulluchapampa.

Day 2 LLULLUPAMPA – CHAQUICOCHA

The group gets up at 6.30 am and after a nice, ruina pumamarka rich breakfast we will start our walk towards the highest point of the Inca Trail, the Warmiwañusca pass (4200 masl). This is the most difficult part of the trek and on our way up to the Warmiwañusca pass we can observe different microclimates. Then we start our descent to Pacaymayu where we take lunch and enjoy a little rest as well. After regaining our strenght we will visit the Runkuracay complex and from there descend to Sayacmarca, a semi-circular incaica construction that was built on different levels. From here our overnight camp in Chaquicocha is only 20 minutes away and this is the final stop for the day. At this point we are already half way on the Inca Trail and also not so far from the Citadel of Machu Picchu.

The next stop is the Phuyupatamarca archeological complex where there is an excellent view over the Urubamba Valley. Finally we reach the final camp on the Inca Trail at Wiñayhuayna (2650 masl) which is a very beautiful Inca archeological complex. In Wiñayhuayna we take shelter and hikers usually celebrate their last night of the Inca Trail. Here it is also posible to take a hot shower.

Day 4 WIÑAYHUAYNA - MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

This is the big day, the day arriving to Machu Picchu! In order to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu our group needs to get up at 4.30 am and after breakfast we start the walk towards the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From ruina pumamarkahere finally we can enjoy a magnificent view over the Citadel of Machu Picchu. This is the most exciting moment on the Inca Trail. Seeing Machu Picchu for the first time is trully unforgettable after making so much effort and climbing. In Machu Picchu we start a guided tour and will visit the different sectors of this city: the house of the guards, the agricultural zone, the urban area, the temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, the workshop area, the square of temples among other places. Everyone will have enough free time to walk around individually and take photos or film the site. Finally we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where it is possible to visit the hot springs.
